Grandkids on half term called for a visit to Knaresborough

Garden matters

Can anyone identify this snowdrop which I have in my garden.  If it turns out to be worth a fortune, I’ll give you a cut of the profits, or at least a bulb!

We had a very amusing and enlightening talk at our gardening club by Ben Emmott on the sex lives plants, which you can hear about here:  http://gardenersfridayforum.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/the-sex-lives-of-plants.htm

The garlic is looking good at the allotment where I am a volunteer.

Read: First part of Lost Innocence by Simon Palmer.  Contains a graphic account of a Thai prison but compelling reading as the story twists and turns.
and

Keeping up my weekly challenge of Write 1 Sub 1

Seen:  “The Flat” an Israeli film, written and directed by Arnon Goldfinger.  A documentary about cleaning out his grandmother’s flat and of the correspondence which the family found there.

I’m also watching Hostages on TV.  Thrilling!

  1. Last summer, I went to Knaresborough for what was supposed to be a nice stroll around the town centre and its sights. It turned out to be a dash around rather than a stroll: http://librarianwithsecrets.blogspot.de/2013/07/my-yorkshire-holiday-part-vi.html

    1. From your post, I see you managed to see some of Knaresborough but definitely worth another visit.

  2. This is the most common double snowdrop - http://apps.rhs.org.uk/plantselector/plant?plantid=3001
Yours doesn't look exactly like it as it seems to have more than three large outer petals, so maybe it is something rarer.

    1. I think you're right, Patsy. However, even S. Arnott bulbs are going for £5 each, so you never know!

  3. Oh I like Knaresborough, was there last year for a few days. Lovely little town. I recall a lovely cafe right down at the waters edge, where they served about 100 different soups!

Its good to get out and about exploring, and I think the more you do it the more aware you become of everything.
    Have a good week!

    1. It was definitely a soup day when we visited. However, on a warm and sunny day it is impossible to park or get served in a café. There's something about walking near water, whether it be river, lake or sea.
