Spent a few days at the coast before the season ends and the weather stayed fine and warm.
We stopped off at Sledmere House, which we visited in Spring. The summer display had just finished but there was lots of colour.
The next day we strolled along the promenade at Bridlington but failed to spot any dolphins before a wander around the grounds at Sewerby Hall and then on to Scarborough to look at the illuminations at the Japanese themed Peasholm Park.

Richard "Dickie" Dickinson (1669 - 1739)First Governor of the Scarborough Spa, where he managed the original “Spa House”, where visitors came to drink curative mineral waters. He oversaw the bottling and distant sale of spa water. A massive landslide in 1737 buried the Spa House and wells and Richard Dickinson died just two years later. He was famous for his sharp wit and eccentric behavior, sometimes imagining himself to be a king.
One day we went to Beverley with its long main street lined with mostly independent shops. The market was on too. We parked outside St Mary's Church. Founded 900 years ago, although not as imposing as Beverley Minster, St Mary’s possesses some of the finest architecture and artwork of any parish church in England. I was interested to see the beautiful and colourful hassocks as I have just finished reading the novel "A Single Thread" by Tracy Chevalier which features these.
See you again in March!
