Sledmere House and Gardens

We have driven past Sledmere, in the Yorkshire Wolds, many times and even used the café, but this was the first time we visited the grounds courtesy of our Historic House Association membership.

The grounds are well kept with many interesting features. It is advertised as landscaped by Capablility Brown, but they are not typical of his work.

The Georgian house, ancestral home of the Sykes family, looks interesting but was closed on the day we visited.

My favourite part was the walled garden entered via the red door.

The fruit trees were pruned in various shapes.

It was still early in the year to see it at its best but hope to return in the summer.

Greenhouse envy!

There were some animals to pet in the Farm Park but we didn't  want to get too close with the dog.

To end the visit we visited the Wagoners' Museum

An ambulance for horses during the war
